Cookie usage
How sign-in and browser storage support the forum.
Sign-in cookies
Cookies are small values stored by your browser and sent back to this site. The disctalk_session cookie identifies your session and supports signing in and protecting forms. The session cookie is HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax; secure connections use the Secure flag. Its expiry is set when the session is created or renewed.
Registration protection
The disctalk_session_history cookie holds signed recent account identifiers for registration screening. It lasts up to 180 days and helps staff identify links to previously banned accounts. A match is a review signal, not proof that two accounts belong to the same person.
Other browser storage
The forum also uses local storage for display preferences, recent emoji, notification state and editor recovery, and session storage for selected quotes and moderation selections. These values stay in this browser; clearing site data can remove saved writing and preferences.
Your browser controls
You can inspect or clear this site’s cookies and storage in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie can prevent signing in or submitting forms. Embedded videos and other third-party content may use their own cookies when you access that content.
